Welcome to Wednesday Women!

It gives me great pleasure to introduce a very talented
Guest Designer Wanda Hentges.
Wanda has a way to use color and her creative style really stands out.

She has been stamping since 1999. 

She says she

 loves that you can do sooooo much with stamps and supplies

 in whatever style you feel like that day

whether it is grungy, elegant, distressed, bright....

whatever, the list goes on. 

Stamping also lead me to jewelry, book binding, altered art, 

and one day hopefully I'll tackle an art journal.

I've been married to a wonderful man for 28 years

and we have 3 fabulous children,

a girl out on her own and 2 teenage boys at home.

Instructions:

Pic #1 – Cut a piece of Clearly For Art large enough to stamp the bottle on it.  Stamp the bottle with jet black ink.  Heat the ink until dry.  Cut out the bottle and cut off the top.  Heat the bottle and shape so that it is rounded.

Pic #2 – Stamp paintbrush with jet black ink 3 times onto grungepaper.  Cut out, punch hole in handle with crop-a-dile, ink with distress ink, wrap with foil tape, create lines in tape with metal tool.

Pic #3 – Stamp heart onto matching Art Part by inking the stamp with jet black, laying the stamp face up, and pressing the Art Part piece to the stamp.  Ink heart with barn door Stain, dry, and coat with rock candy Stickles by squeezing some onto the heart and then spreading it out with your finger.

Pic #4 – Ink frame and scallop borders with vintage photo Stain and dry.  Then so it is darker ink again and dry.  Stamp all pieces with jet black ink.  Stamp dots background onto as much of the frame as it will fit.  Stamp remainder of frame with other background.  Stamp large scallop border with dot background.  Stamp small scallop border with other background.

Pic #5 – Stamp ink bottle onto matching Art Part with jet black ink.  Ink bottle with barn door Stain.  Stamp matching label onto white cardstock with jet black, cut out, and ink around edges with pumice stone.  Attach to bottle with Glue & Seal.

Pic #6 – Ink Flourish Art Part with wild honey Stain.  Stamp dots randomly over piece with spiced marmalade covering flourishes with a scrap of paper so they aren’t stamped.  Using coffee ink stamp circle background over top half of piece and the crosshatch background over bottom half again covering the flourishes so they don’t get stamped.  Ink edges, including flourishes, with vintage photo ink.  Stamp saying with jet black ink.

Pic #7 – Stamp leaves twice onto grungepaper with olive ink, cut out, ink with bundled sage and peeled paint, stamp speckled background with olive.

Pic #8 – The paper towel was left over after a previous project.  I had used it to clean up excess color wash off my craft sheet.  It was so pretty that I decided to try it with some Clearly For Art after reading one of Wendy Vecchi’s blog posts.  I glued it to a piece of Clearly For Art using Glue & Seal, let it dry and die cut the flowers.   I’ve used some and others were still laying there waiting to be used… the colors were just right for this project so I used the small ones.

Pic #9 – Stamp the mini butterfly on grungepaper with jet black ink, cut out, ink with wild honey all over and barn door just on the edges of the butterfly, dry, add dots to the body with the Inkssential pen, dry, rub a little rock candy Stickles onto the wings.

Pic #10 – Cut one leaf stem into 2 pieces.  Heat flowers, shape, and add brads to the centers.  Assemble all pieces as shown gluing everything with Glossy Accents except for the bottle, it was attached using small pieces of wonder tape.  Put black Enamel Accent dots over dots in saying and also add a row of dots to the top edge of background.  Cut a piece of ribbon, rub on a little pumice stone ink, and tie around edge of frame trimming ends.

Technique Tuesday ~ Tag Booklet

The cover, spine and pages can be adapted

to make any size book.

Making up these instructions are my own.

My daughter owns and operates an antique shop in Southern Kansas.
When she has too much of one item she brings them
to me to use in my artwork.
This is how I came about using game boards for the base of
my books and Kraft paper for the covers.

Here is my Tutorial with step-by-step instructions:

Supplies:

Distress ink (vintage photo)

Kraft paper

Rubber stamps

Archival ink (black)

Glossy Card stock

Zutter Bind-it-All

5/8” Owires

3M Spray Mount Artist’s Adhesive

White card stock or 14pt file folders

White 2 “masking tape

Paper trimmer

12” Tim Holtz ruler

Studio Multi-Medium 

 (adhesive)

Martha Stewart score board

Cutting Rotary Mat

Craft mat knife

Game board or heavy duty cardboard

This booklet was made for my #8 finished tags; 3 1/8” x 6 ¼.” 

Instructions:

1. Cut scrabble game board into two pieces down the center fold with a craft knife. Set one aside for another booklet. Each piece is now seven inches by fourteen inches long. Place one piece down on rotary mat. Use mat cutter with metal edge of ruler to cut front and back book pieces. I cut one piece from left finished seam and one piece from the right finished seam, and then the seam binding and spacers from remainer of game board. 

These measurements are:

2 pieces 4” x 7”

1 piece 1 & 1/4” x 7”

2 pieces of game board as spacer

Set aside for now

Note: For safety, please use a new blade when cutting the game board or thick book board.  

2. Cut a 10” x 14” piece of Kraft paper; crumble the paper with your hands (try not to tear the paper as you crumble,) smooth out, crumble several times and then smooth out. Spray one side of Kraft paper with adhesive outdoors or in well ventilated area.  Leave outside for a little while, bring in and place down on craft table adhesive side up.

3. Place the pieces of game board down over the adhesive. Allow an even space between the front, back and spine using the spacer pieces. (As seen in photo)

4. Use scissors to cut all four outside corners on a diagonal.

5. Crease and fold all edges inward.

6. Measure and cut one piece of masking tape 2 inches by 7 inches, cover the inside of spine. Cut another piece of white masking tape 2 inches by 9 inches long, add to outside of spine and continue to inside of spine. Press down until smooth.

7. Cut two pieces of Kraft paper and glue on inside to cover up scrabble game board.

8. Use Vintage Photo distress ink direct to color the book cover and on the inside. Or finish as desired.

9. Use paper trimmer to cut two pieces of card stock 4 3/8” x 6 3/4.” This will be the inside front and back face cover.

10. Use Bind-it-All tool to punch 12 holes in these two pieces as directed on instructions.  

11. Next, use score board to crease a valley folds ¾” on front and back pieces. 

12. Cut 12-15 pages of card stock 3½” x 6 ¾”

13. Use the instructions from the Bind-it-All to punch hole into each page

14. Make a stack with one page (mountain fold) 4 3/8” x 6 ¾”, 15 cardstock pages 3 ½” x 6 ¾” and then one page (mountain fold) 4 3/8” x 6 ¾” together.

15. Use tool to cut 5/8” Owires 6 inches long. (12 wires)

16. With the stacked pieces of cardstock place them in the Bind-It-All and then bind together.  When you have the owires and paper together they will look like the photo below with valley fold of front and back pieces and pages in the middle.

Note: The ends of wires will not be seen they will be under the card stock next to spine.

17. Insert the pages in center of center spine.  Close the booklet and check that the Owires are at the center of booklet. Open carefully and glue one side at a time, and center the booklet with even spaces on both sides with valley folds at folds of spine. 

Note: Glue the inside front and back pieces with the valley folds in center of booklet, I used a credit card with Studio Multi- Medium as an adhesive. Smooth with Speelball 4" Baren until it is smooth and applied to book. (Rubbing with your hand will do as well to get a smooth finish)

18. Finally step: Embellish your booklet!!

Felonious Friday with Outlaw Gal - Using Digital Stamps

Hey Everyone it's another Felonious Friday!! Hope everyone that is in the U.S. had a great Holiday Weekend last week. This week we are going to work with a Digital Stamp. Many of you might not know but I'm the Owner of Robyn's Fetish Digital Stamps and More.. I create Digital Stamps from Line Art. I wanted to use a Digital Stamp on an ATC Card but I didn't want to just print it out, color it and then Fussy Cut it and pop dot it to my Card. I wanted it on the ATC Card just as if I stamped it right on..

Is this possible you ask?

Yuppers!!

What I did is brought up my Paint Program - Paint Shop Pro and sized the Digital Stamp to just under 2 1/2 inches wide. Then I put a Blank ATC Card into my printer and adjusted it so it had a custom size to print. I have a Canon printer and it will print any size I want. I adjusted it to print out a 3/12 by 2 1/2 sized paper. With the ATC card in the printer I printed out the Digital Stamp!

Perfecto! I now had my Digital Stamp right on my Blank ATC Card. Okay so now what? I had to do my background... but I didn't want to go over my stamp. I created a mask. First I printed off my Digital Stamp again using the same proportions but instead of using paper I cut a mask sheet to the size of an ATC Card and placed that in the printer. It printed out the Digital Stamp just perfect. I cut it out and then adhered this onto my ATC Card.

I then took my Distress Stain - Spiced Marmalade and used it all over the card. Going over the mask but not the digital stamped image. After that dried I grabbed a Script Stamp, some VersaMark Embossing Ink and some Black Embossing Powder. Inking up my stamp with the Versamark and then stamped, and poured the embossing powder on.

At this point I took the mask off the ATC Card... You don't want to leave this on .. duh!! I have and have had a mess of melted mask or a mask that get's stuck on the card and your left with a ripped area.. Believe you me I have forgotten over and over again to take that mask off and had to start all over. Throwing the card across the room and screaming out some not so nice words!! so remember to take your mask off!! ROFL!!

Then heat emboss your card. see what I mean the heat will melt the mask or make it so sticky it sticks to the area and then rips the paper and then and then and then!! LMAO!!

Okay I'm done ranting now..

I used "Black Soot" Distress Ink and with my Blending tool blended the Black soot ink around the edge of the card.

Okay now I want to color my scary pumpkin.. I decided to use Copic Markers for this but anything can be used. Gel Pens, Prisma Color Pencils , Water Color Pencils. Just anything you want to color the pumpkin with. I didn't blend with my Copics this time. I just used the Orange, Black and a lighter orange for inside the pumpkin.

(By the way OWSE happens to have the best price for Copics on the net.

and you will see we have a Gonga of a Price!!)

Once I was done coloring I needed some sparkle I thought.. I grabbed some black glitter and this fabulous adhesive I use especially when I using fine glitter. The adhesive is made by the Art Glitter company. It has a pointy tip on it so you can really get detailed . I have used this glitter adhesive on these butterfly stamps I have and it works so good you can put layers of different color glitter onto your stamps and have definition between each color of glitter. It's just wonderful stuff!! I have tried so many different adhesives for glitter work and this one is the best!!

Using the adhesive I covered the hat and then with a spoon I spooned the Black Glitter on..

Okay so now it has glitter and I was a Happy Camper.. I completed my card and used my digital Stamp like I would have a regular stamp.. wooohooo!!

Technique Tuesday with Embossed Frame Technique

Embossed Frame Technique

Supplies:

Card stock

Embossing Folder

Sizzix Scallop Oval Frame

Die Cutting Machine

Paper Trimmer

Rubber Stamps

Distress Inks

Blue tape

Adhesive

Cardboard or chipboard from

Cereal and snack boxes

This idea came about when I wanted

an embossed design to frame a stamped image.  

This is one

of those techniques you can use what you have on hand.

The two pieces top left: chipboard from snack boxes, top right embossed card front. [see close-up below] Bottom left one cutting pad, die and embossing folder. Bottom right is my chipboard die cut with blue tape.

 

Instructions:

1.        Use paper trimmer to cut a piece of white card stock 4” x 5 1/4.” Set aside.

2.        Die cut 3 frames with thin chipboard. Stack and glue them together. Place something heavy on the die cut frame and set aside to dry. When dry mine were  1/16” thick.

3.        Place your white card stock inside an embossing folder.

4.        Go near a window or door with the embossing folders, chipboard frame and two pieces of tape.

5.        Hold the embossing folder with the card stock inside up to the light with the die-cut frame on back side of the embossing folder.

6.        You are doing this to center the frame stack in the center of white card stock. Tape the frame to the back of the embossing folder

7.         Place solo platform down if using your Vagabond, one or two pieces of chipboard, the die-cut chipboard frame taped to embossing folder, then one cutting pad.

Note: use only one cutting pad with this technique.

If using your Cuttlebug do a sandwich in this order:

 A plate, one or two pieces of chipboard, die cut frame taped to embossing folder with card stock inside and B cutting plate.

8.        Run this through your die cutting machine.

9.        You should have a border around the paper with a blank inside perfect for a stamped image.

10.   Stamp an image in center of card stock, embellish and then adhere to finished card.

This is the card I finished on Labor Day 2011 using this technique.

okay now onto our regular scheduled Program.

This Week I worked on a little Halloween Tag

using a Cool Tim Holtz Technique..

and some new Stamps Sets I got from none other

then OWSE

By the way has anyone started doing any Halloween Projects?

I'm going to start doing some cards for my Sisters kids

no there not little anymore..

they have babies now themselves

Real Little Ones

and my Neiece is pregnant again.

The sad thing is I'm stuck here in Indianapolis and never get to see them but

I sure do like snagging pictures of the babies off of Facebook and Scrapping them

well anywho here is a Fun Tag I created for

All Hollows Eve ( I love to call it that!) LOL

To Create this Tag

I put White Cap Paint Dabber all over My Flourish Stamp

and Stamped it

Then I took two Distress Inks

Peeled Paint and Spiced Marmalade

and blended the two into the tag

Then I took a Paper Towel and spritzed it with a Mini Mister

I got it pretty wet but not saturated

Then I wiped the color off the Flourish areas

The Paint dabber acts as a resist..

I edged the Tag with Forest Moss Distress Ink

it goes so good with

Peeled Paint as a shadow

and Voila one Background!!

Pretty Cool huh

Once my background was done I got to stamping on it..

I used my Bird Stamp once again from Mr. Tim Holtz

Then I used my new Halloween Set from

Some day I'll show you my Beach one.

It's a gal not too skinny with graying hair like me

she has some cool saying like

"Do I look Fat in this"

meaning her swimsuit..

Now don't we all say that expecting to hear "No you don't" and if we don't hear that

boy do we start to pout!!

ROFL!

Back to this piece

Using this Halloween Stamp set

I stamped the Black Cat

then the Graveyard twice

once offset to the right so it went off the edge.

Then I cut out my Focal Point Images

One I found on the Internet

the house and a tiny little ghost in the background

I cut this into a circle

I had the Gal Image from when I used to buy tubes because I was

a Paint Shop Pro Addict making Signature Tags..

The Artist that created this gal is Keith Garvey

Boy is this man talented creating Beautiful Woman

Some day I'll show off some of my Siggy tags I use to make.

I got heavy into Animation and I taught Paint Shop Pro for a bit..

but seems to be in another life time

So Once I finished cutting out the gal I printed off I positioned her to

give the illusion that she was floating in the air..

good little cute Witch!! LOL
